Earn A Diploma in Nursing

Become an R.N. in a program that prepares you to meet the challenge of professional nursing in the many areas of today´s healthcare. This program is designed to provide one year (two semesters) of 30 prerequisite credits from Penn State University Schuykill Campus followed by six successive 15 week semesters of nursing courses at the Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing.

Year 1
Penn State University:

  • Anatomy
  • Psychology
  • Nutrition
  • Physiology
  • English Composition
  • Microbiology
  • Sociology
  • Speech
  • Human Development (year 2)

Year 2 and 3
Students receive 1,030 hours of Nursing theory and 1,180 hours of clinical experience in direct patient care at the Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic and other health care and service agencies in the community.

  • Obstetrics
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Geriatrics
  • Operating Room
  • Post-Anesthesia Care
  • Emergency Room
  • Critical Care

  • Long-Term Care
  • etc.

Admission Requirements

  • High School Diploma Or GED
  • Consideration is given to:
  • SAT or ACT scores
  • Class Rank and/or GPA
  • Previous college course credit
  • Nursing Entrance Test
  • Advanced Placement Options
  • LPN
  • Transfer students from NLNAC accredited schools of nursing

RN to BSN Completion Option

Graduates may complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Penn State Schuylkill Campus. The 30 Penn State credits earned in year 1, plus several additional credits for nursing course work in year 2 and 3, are applicable toward the University´s BSN degree for Registered Nurse.
